Maha Shivratri 2023: Know general rules to be followed during Shiv Pooja

Do not worship two shivlings in the house.

Shiva poojas should not be started without cremation. Also, one should wear a garland of Rudraksha around the neck and white clothes while doing Shiva Puja.

Shiva should not bathe with conch shell water during Abhishekam in Shiva Puja.

The Shivlinga in the temple should be circumambulated till Shiva Nirmalya. At the time of Shiva Puja at home, one should circumambulate oneself.

Shivas Kevada and Tulsa should not flow. But the basil on Vishnu's feet is dear to Shiva. Also Bel, Kund, Koranti and white corn are very dear to Shiva. Tridal or panchadal of Bela should be flown towards you on Shivpindi.

Shiva darshan should be done by placing left hand and right hand index finger and thumb on the horns of Nandi in the temple.
