Rahul Gandhi disqualified, list of MP's disqualified due to court's conviction

After being convicted by a Surat court in a defamation case, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified from membership of the Lok Sabha and his name has been added to the list of people's representatives who have faced such action.

According to the Representation of the People Act, if a person is sentenced to imprisonment for two years or more in any case, he shall be disqualified from membership of the House from the date of conviction and six months after completion of the sentence. It will remain ineligible for a further year.

1-Lalu Prasad: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president was disqualified from the Lok Sabha in September 2013 after pleading guilty in a fodder scam case. At that time he was MP from Saran in Bihar.

PP Mohammad Faisal: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP from Lakshadweep PP Mohammad Faisal was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in January 2023 in a case of attempted murder, after which he himself was disqualified from Parliament.

Azam Khan: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan was sentenced to three years in prison by a court in 2019 in a hate speech case, after which he was disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in October 2022. . He represents Rampur Sadar Vidhan Sabha.

5- Anil Kumar Sahni: RJD MLA Sahni was disqualified from the Bihar Legislative Assembly in October 2022 after being sentenced to three years in prison in a fraud case.

6- Vikram Singh Saini: BJP MLA Saini was given invalid contract from Uttar Pradesh Assembly with effect from October 2022. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment in a case related to the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. Saini was MLA from Khatauli seat.

7- Pradeep Chaudhary: Congress MLA Chaudhary was given an ineligible contract from the Haryana Assembly in January 2021. He was sentenced to three years in prison in one case of assault. He was MLA from Kalka.

8: Kuldeep Singh Sengar: Sengar was disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in February 2020 after pleading guilty in a rape case.

9- Abdullah Azam Khan: SP MLA Abdullah Azam Khan was given an ineligible contract from Uttar Pradesh Assembly in February 2023. A few days ago, a court sentenced him to two years imprisonment in a 15-year-old case.

10- Anant Singh: RJD MLA Anant Singh was disqualified from Bihar Assembly membership in July 2022. He was given a guilty plea in connection with the seizure of arms and ammunition from his residence.
