Why do bike disc brakes have holes? 99% of people don't know

In recent times, we see disc brakes in almost all the bikes coming in the Indian market. For safety reasons, companies are providing disc brakes on most of their bikes. Disc brakes are more beneficial than drum brakes for better braking.

The number of disc brakes in a motorcycle varies depending on the power and weight of the motorcycle. Front single disc is commonly seen in motorcycles. In contrast, the superbike gets double discs at the front and a single disc at the rear wheel. Each of these discs has several holes.

One of the biggest causes of holes in disc brakes is that many times a vacuum builds up between the brake pad and the disc, which can cause the brake pad to stick to the disc.

This can cause the brake pads and discs to stick after sudden and urgent braking. This can also lead to accidents. But, the holes in the disc do not create a vacuum and the pads do not stick to the disc.

Another reason is that friction from braking causes the discs to overheat. In such cases, there is a risk of disc cracking. But because of the holes in it, air continues to escape and the temperature of the disc is maintained. Along with this, the brake pads also do not overheat.
