Ayodhya, Aug 31 A major development plan for Ayodhya has been finalised by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh. According to sources in the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) and the local municipal authorities, all eight small ponds, known as 'kund' having historical and religious significance, will be revived and rejuvenated.

The ancient 'Suraj Kund' will also be developed as a tourist hub. Dr Neeraj Shukla, Vice Chairman of the Ayodhya Development Authority, said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during one of his Ayodhya visits, had ordered the development of Suraj Kund located at a distance of 6 kms from Ayodhya.

According to legend, one day a Suryavanshi King came here to hunt and decided to reside at this place permanently. The king was suffering from leprosy, but was cured after a dip in the kund. The king ordered the construction of a temple dedicated to the Sun God.

Devotees take a dip in the kund every Sunday and pray to the Sun God to get rid of their diseases. The ADA has earmarked Rs 35 crore for renovation and beautification of Suraj Kund. Sources said that a boundary wall will be built around the kund and it will have paintings related to the life of Lord Ram. There will be a playground for children and also a Science Park near the temple. A 'vatika', or orchard, will also be developed. A major light and sound show is also being planned at Suraj Kund.

"We want that when tourists come to Ayodhya, they should stay for at least three days and visit various places. We will also construct about 50 shops in this area to give employment to the local people," the ADA vice chairman said.
