Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 14 confirmed that investigators have identified the face of a suspect connected to the bomb scare at a hospital in Pune’s Hadapsar area through CCTV footage. Addressing reporters in Mumbai, Fadnavis stated that the suspicious object recovered from the hospital premises was an actual bomb and described the incident as a deliberate act of sabotage. He said police teams are actively working to trace the accused while several agencies are conducting a coordinated investigation into the case. Authorities are also examining whether the incident has any possible terror-related connection as the probe continues to gather momentum across multiple departments.
The incident triggered panic on the evening of May 13 after hospital authorities discovered a suspicious bomb-like object inside the medical facility in Hadapsar. Initial findings by investigators suggested that the device was a low-intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) equipped with a timer mechanism. Officials later revealed that the explosive had a timer reportedly set for nearly seven hours. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) quickly reached the location and successfully neutralised the device before it could detonate, averting what could have become a major disaster. The timely response by emergency teams ensured the safety of everyone present within the hospital premises during the tense situation.
As a precautionary measure following the recovery of the explosive device, doctors, medical staff, patients, and visitors were immediately evacuated from the hospital building. Police also imposed temporary traffic restrictions in areas surrounding the facility to allow security personnel and bomb disposal experts to carry out operations safely. Multiple agencies, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Pune Police, and the Crime Branch, have now launched a detailed joint investigation into the case. Officials believe the accused may have arrived at the hospital on an electric two-wheeler before planting the device and escaping from the scene. Investigators are currently analysing CCTV recordings and technical evidence to track the suspect’s movements and determine the motive behind the act.
