Heavy rains have led to severe flooding in Pune City, trapping residents in inundated areas. In a distressing development from the Warje area, floodwaters have tragically claimed the lives of livestock that were tied inside a shed.

These animals were tied in a cowshed near the riverbed near Warje cemetery. Heavy rains and release of dam water caused the water level of the river to rise in the night.  The entire cowshed was submerged in a few hours. 14 animals tied in this cowshed have died due to drowning in water. 11 cows and three buffaloes have lost their lives in the floods in Warje, while four to five animals survived as the stood face up in the water.

The owner of the live stock did not notice the cowshed as the water suddenly entered the shed leaving no time for rescue.

The district administration has appealed to the citizens to stay safe and not to panic. The administration has decided to disburse more than 35000 cusec of water from Khadakwasla dam by 4:00 pm which may cause the water level to further rise.
