Pune: Woman Dies, Spa Manager Critical After Attempted Escape During Police Raid in Viman Nagar
A woman lost her life and a spa manager sustained critical injuries after allegedly attempting to flee during a police raid at a spa centre in Viman Nagar, where an illegal sex racket was suspected to be operating, officials said on Tuesday. According to police, the raid was carried out in the evening following specific inputs about unlawful activities at the establishment. Officers laid a trap before entering the premises, which reportedly led to panic among those inside. Several individuals allegedly tried to escape as the police team moved in.
Amid the chaos, a woman and the spa manager are said to have attempted to flee by jumping from a rear window of the building. The woman suffered grievous injuries and was declared dead before she could be shifted to a hospital. The spa manager sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU), police said. Authorities cordoned off the area and conducted a detailed inspection of the spot. CCTV footage and other evidence from the premises are being examined to ascertain the nature and scale of the alleged activities at the spa. Police are working to confirm the identity of the deceased woman and trace her family members. Senior officers supervising the probe have assured strict action against those found involved in illegal operations. The incident has sparked concern locally, with officials noting that while cases of illegal activities at spas have surfaced in the city earlier, a fatality during a police raid has made this case particularly grave.
