According to Bangalore-based cyber-security firm Technisect, Tamil Nadu's Public Delivery System (PDS) has been hacked and the personal information of nearly 5 million people has been leaked. The hackers had uploaded all the personal information of the citizens on the hacker forum. It included Aadhar card numbers of 50 lakh citizens along with their important information, family information and mobile numbers.

It has been reported that hackers could use the information for online phishing and target older people in the state. Meanwhile, the state government has not yet released official information in this regard. According to the cyber security startup, the data leaked on the web contained information of a total of 49,19,668 citizens of Tamil Nadu. This includes 3,59,485 phone numbers as well as postal numbers and Aadhaar numbers of the users concerned.

The first information about this was published by 'The Week'. It is not yet clear whether the hacked information was stolen directly from a website linked to the Tamil Nadu government or a third party website.
