UPI Payment Failure: What to Do When Money Is Deducted But Not Credited – Check THESE Steps to Get Your Refund

UPI payments have become an essential part of daily transactions in India, allowing people to move around without carrying cash. The system works seamlessly across devices using secure QR codes. However, outages can leave users stranded when payments fail or get stuck.

Earlier this week, a UPI service disruption prevented many from making purchases at stores or online. If you ever face a similar situation, here is what you need to do to resolve payment failures and get your money back.

Check Your Account Balance
If a transaction fails, check your bank account to see if the money has been deducted. If the full balance remains intact, the payment did not go through, and your funds are safe.

Money Deducted But Not Received
If the amount is debited from your account but not received by the seller, the money is likely stuck in processing. In most cases, the amount is automatically refunded within 24 hours to three days.

Keep Your UPI Payment ID Handy
Every UPI transaction has a unique ID, which can be used to track payments. If a transfer fails, use this ID to check the transaction status or request a refund from your bank.

Contact Bank Customer Support
If the refund does not appear in your account, share the transaction ID with customer support for assistance. Bank representatives can guide you on the next steps.

Carry Backup Cash
While UPI is convenient, it relies on internet connectivity. To avoid problems during outages, keep some cash or an alternative payment method available.

UPI failures can be frustrating, but knowing these steps can help you resolve issues quickly and avoid financial inconvenience.
