The selection panel who was given the responsibility to select the coaches for RTM Nagpur University's SAI centre has rejected as many as nine former handball players who also has international experience as 'not suitable'.It may be mentioned here that the selection panel comprising Vijay Patil of SAI Mumbai, RTMNU representatives Dr Aditya Soni and Suresh Mankar conducted the virtual interviews of candidates on March 6. Nine candidates for handball, one for badminton, three for athletics and three for basketball appeared for the interview. Out of them the panel selected Smita Bakre (handball), Sayali Waghmare (athletics) and Jayendra Dhole (badminton) as coaches and rejected nine handball players as 'not suitable' and also recommended fresh interviews. Those who appeared for the interviews include international players Poonam Kadav, Inderjeet Singh Randhawa and Priti Supare. national players Megha Shende, Mukta Dhargawe, Jitendra Mudliyar, Dhiraj Bhoskar and Rakesh Bansod.In this regard when contacted the director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education of RTM Nagpur Dr Sharad Suryavanshi he said, " While selecting the candidate for the job of coach, the only national or international experience was not the criteria. We also checked whether the candidates were suitable for our centre. We found that some candidates are already engaged with some institutions and some failed to produce NOC of their institutions. Within a fortnight we will conduct fresh interviews of the candidates". he said.However, one of the officials of Nagpur District Handball Association (NDHA) on the condition of anonymity has refuted this argument. He said, "There is no logic in this argument. Poonam Kadav and Priti Supare who have played at an international level are not associated with any institution. Then why their candidature was rejected?." he questioned. The official also said that both are able to give their full time for coaching purpose. " Poonam has represented India in IHF Trophy at Bangladesh in 2016 whereas Priti Supare was the member of gold medal-winning team in 6th CommonwealthYouth handball Championship in 1995 at Dhaka. It is very surprising that the selection panel found them not suitable", he said. The official has also said t that another former player Inderjeet Singh Randhawa who has represented India in several international tournaments used to coach the players at SAI's day boarding handball centre at RTMNU ground without taking any remuneration Although he is associated with one educational institute he used to extend his services. The varsity had no problem with him. But when they are giving the remuneration to coaches, they rejected him as not suitable.
