11 GMCH patients got discharged after recovering from mucormycosis

Aurangabad, May 24:

Eleven patients have got recovered from Mucormycosis in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and reunited with their family members. They succeeded in recovering the fungal infection as they took the treatment in time.

Presently, there are 62 active patients of Mucormycosis in GMCH, while 11 had been discharged, so far. These patients underwent the treatment under the supervision of GMCH dean Dr Kanan Yelikar by Dr. Sunil Deshmukh, Dr. Vasant Pawar, Dr Mahendra Katare, Dr Shailesh Nikam, Dr Sonali Landage and para medical staff. " The hospital is taking all efforts to procure an adequate stock of injections needed for the treatment of patients suffering from fungal infection," said Dr. Yelikar.

It is learnt that one mucormycosis patient is given three injections daily for 14 consecutive days (total 42 injections) and the district had received stock of 280 injections only, till today. The hospital gets injections after placing the order with the district administration. The supply is inadequate compared to the strength of patients. Hence the relatives are forced to run from pillar to post to obtain the injections for their patients, it is observed.
