A 19-year-old youth drowned while swimming in the Tembhapuri Dam on Sunday around 4.30 pm. The deceased has been identified as Prince Asher Srisundar, a resident of Shantinagar, Chhavani, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Prince had gone to the dam with a group of friends from the Chhavani area to enjoy the Sunday holiday. Around 4 pm, the group entered the reservoir for a swim. However, Prince reportedly misjudged the depth of the water and was pulled into a deeper section. On noticing him struggling, his friends and local residents raised an alarm and attempted to rescue him, but were unsuccessful. Upon receiving information, Waluj police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation with the help of locals. After sustained efforts, Prince was retrieved from the water and taken in an unconscious state to CSMSS Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead after examination. The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the Shantinagar area in Chhavani. Waluj police have registered a case, and the body has been sent to government medical college and hospital for post-mortem.
