3 doctors from GMCH in race for VC post

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Three doctors from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) are in the race for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).

They are Dean Dr Shivaji Sukre, Head of the Department of Radiology Dr Varsha Rote-Kaginalkar and Professor from GMCH and now Dean in Nashik Dr Venkat Geete. The name of the former Dean of the GMCH, Dr Sanjay Rathod, is also included.

Out of the applications received for the post of VC, 38 candidates have qualified for the interview. The advertisement in this regard was published on December 31, 2025. The last date for submission of applications was February 2.

The applications received were scrutinised by the search-cum-selection committee as per the criteria mentioned in the advertisement. Now, the interviews will be held in Mumbai on March 13 and 14.

All eyes of the health education circles are towards who will be the VC from among the Deans and Heads of Departments across the State.

The venue of the interview will be informed separately. The MUHS administration clarified that if any kind of recommendation letter is found, the candidature will be cancelled.

Meanwhile, candidates will have to submit a two-page essay each on their qualifications and the future vision of the university. They will also have to make a 10-minute presentation along with three reference letters. Five names will be selected from this interview first. After that, the final selection will be made.
