30 patients undergoing treatment for COVID , Mucormycosis in GMCH

There is a challenge before doctors treat COVID patients along with mucormycosis infection. A total of two patients died during the last two days because of mucormycosis.

A total of 30 patients are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for both COVID and mucormycosis.

The causes of mucormycosis include uncontrolled diabetes, use of steroids during COVID treatment and not paying attention to the use of distilled water in oxygen bottles. A total of 200 patients fungal infection, including some taking post-COVID treatment. Dr Vasant Pawar from the ENT Department of GMCH said that 30 patients are being treated with mucormycosis with the pandemic virus.

“When the serious patients remain in the hospital for a longer period, mucormycosis is diagnosed immediately. The patients are administered an injection to reduce the spread of fungal infection,” he added.

The GMCH is taking special care of pandemic patients. Experts said that all measures are being taken to prevent infection of patients from mucormycosis. A total of 333 serious patients of COVID are undergoing treatment.

A 58-year-old pandemic patient from Lasalgon (Nashik) died in GMCH on May 24 while undergoing treatment since May 6. The cause of his death mentioned in the report is COVID and mucormycosis. Another patient was a 51-year-old man from Triveniagar of the city at 11.30 am on May 25. His cause of death is the same.
