Aurangabad, March 14:

The Corona patients are on the rise in the city again. Hence, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration is conducting around 5,000 Corona tests daily, of which around 600 are reported positive. Presently, about 2000 active patients are being treated. Hence, the workload on the AMC health department has increased considerably and efforts are being taken at the senior level to increase the man force, the sources said.

Last year, the services of the officers and employees of the district administration and contractual workers were acquired for tackling the Corona crisis. Now, the increase in the number of patients is more than last year. Presently, there are 1000 employees in the AMC health department.

The Cipet Covid Care Centre was started again on Saturday evening and the hospital beds were full by Sunday afternoon. There are around 200 patients here. Presently, patients are admitted at Meltron Hospital, MGM Sports Complex, MIT Boys Hostel, Killerk, EOC Padampura, CSSM College, Cipet, Government Engineering College and Polytechnic College.

The first Corona patient was reported in the district on March 15, 2020. After that, the number of patients increase in the district reached to the tune of 56,000 in just 365 days while around 1300 persons have died. Moreover, the impact of the Corona crisis has not yet been over even after one year. The Doctors, nurses and health employees are taking strenuous efforts day and night to combat the crisis.

When the first patient, a professor was reported positive, the health department and municipal corporation got alert and conducted tests of around 600 people, but none of them was found positive. The first patient was recovered and went home from the hospital. However, after April, 2020, patients increased daily and the situation has not ceased yet. In the fight against Corona, residents and the health workers lost their lives. Still, the health workers are providing services to the patients without caring about their lives. Health deputy director, Dr Swapnil Lale, district civil surgeon Dr Sundar Kulkarni, district health officer, Dr Sudhakar Shelke, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH dean, Micro biology department head Dr Jyoti Bajaj – Irwane, Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) health officer, Dr Neeta Padalkar and their teams are working day and night to tackle the Corona crisis.

The first death due to Corona was reported in the region on April 5. Later, the deaths were reported everyday from May 13 onwards. The series of deaths stopped on November 8 for some days.
