ACB nabs Awwal Karkun while accepting bribe of Rs 70K in tehsil office

Aurangabad, July 13:

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an 'Awwal Karkun' of the tehsil office and one another while accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 from the complainant, today morning. The trap was laid, by the Jalna unit of ACB, in the city. The name of Awwal Karkun is Pradeep Haribhau Akhare (49) and private person Yogesh Kailas Lingayat (30).

According to details, the complainant had purchased 303 square metres of plot in Chikalthana from the land bearing Gut Number 459-1. Hence for the mutation (to insert name as owner in the land document), there is a need for tehsildar's order. Hence the complainant contacted Akhare in the tehsil office. The work was not done and the complainant was making several rounds of the office. In the meantime, the complainant met Lingayat, who informed him that his work will not be done unless he greases the palm of the officer concerned.

Later on, the complainant met Akhare and he demanded a bribe of Rs 55,000. After some days, the complainant happens to meet Lingayat, who clarified to him that his work will not be done unless he pays a bribe of Rs 70,000. The complainant was in no mood to pay the bribe, as a result, he contacted the Jalna ACB and registered a complaint against Akhare and Lingayat.

Under the guidance of the superiors, the ACB inspector S S Shaikh and his team comprising head constable Manohar Khandagale, Ganesh Cheke, Javed Shaikh, and Pravin Khandare verified the complaint on July 2 and 6. The accused confirm the bribe amount of Rs 70,000. Akhare had called the complainant to bring the money today. Hence the ACB team lay a trap and as soon as Akhare accepted the bribe money the ACB team caught him red-handed with Rs 70,000. They also held Lingayat from the spot.
