A healthcare innovation aimed at improving early cancer detection drew attention during the reverse pitch session at the Silicon Plains International Summit on Applied AI–2026, organised by MGM University in collaboration with Discover Labs AI on Friday.

During the session, a team of students from Deogiri Institute of Engineering and Management Studies, working under the startup name Nirvana, presented an AI-based system designed to assist doctors during colonoscopy procedures. The team explained that the technology acts as a “second pair of eyes” for doctors by analysing endoscopy video frames and automatically detecting polyps small growths in the colon that can potentially turn cancerous over time. According to the presenters, a typical endoscopy generates thousands of frames over a 20- 40 minute procedure, making it possible for small or flat polyps to be missed due to human fatigue. Their AI system analyses each frame, detects hidden polyps, identifies blind spots, and ensures that all areas of the colon are properly examined.

The model, built using computer vision tools such as OpenCV, can also highlight suspicious regions and provide risk analysis based on patient data and lifestyle factors. The team claimed that their prototype has achieved nearly 98 per cent detection accuracy, offering significant potential for improving early diagnosis and supporting doctors in critical medical decisions.
