AMC cuts power supply to recover Rs 20 lakh from its personnel illegally occupying staff quarters

Aurangabad, June 1:

The anti-encroachment squad of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has disconnected the power supply of its five personnel, who were illegally staying in the staff quarters, and recover dues of Rs 20 lakh from them. They were illegally enjoying water supply and power supply for the past many years without paying house rent to the AMC. Meanwhile, the civic administration has ordered them to vacate their possession in one week.

It may be noted that the AMC through its estate section allots its staff quarters to needy employees. However, it has come to notice that some of their quarters are illegally occupied by its employees or others. It may be noted that after taking possession of a quarter from AMC the employees or their family members stay in it without paying house rent for years at a stretch even after the retirement of an employee or his demise or other reasons. Hence the AMC took the action and disconnected the power supply connections of five quarters on Tuesday to recover dues of Rs 20 lakh from them.

The action was taken against Shaikh Parvez Shaikh Babu and Yusuf Khan Osman Khan, both were staying in AMC quarters at Kotla Colony, but failed to pay dues of Rs 4.35 lakh and Rs 6.63 lakh respectively. At the staff quarter near an overhead water tank in Shahgunj, the quarter was occupied by Neelabai Narsingh Patil and dues on her are Rs 3.01 lakh. Ganesh Baburao Tupe was staying in quarters at Central Octroi Checkpost's vicinity and dues on him are Rs 3.46 lakh. The family members of deceased employee Anil Namdeo Pawar were staying in quarters near Jubilee Park overhead water tank and the dues on them are Rs 32,426.

The squad also removed a tin shed erected on a 100 square feet area by Neelabai Patil in front of the quarter in Shahgunj. Today's action was taken under the guidance of additional commissioner R P Nikam by deputy commissioner Aparna Thete, designated officer Savita Sonawane, Vasant Bhoye, R S Rachatwar, building inspectors, and other members of the

squad.
