Aurangabad, June 16:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey today underlined that the AMC along with the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) is taking efforts to replace the old water-lifting pump set at Jayakwadi Dam to increase the water lifting capacity by 20 MLD. " These motor pumps are very old and their life span has been ended. Hence, we recommended replacing them with new ones on priority, apart from bypassing the existing main pipeline, to increase the lifting capacity by 20 MLD. The success is purely in the hands of the situation. It could not be predicted," said Pandey.

Presently, the AMC lifts 120 MLD of water from the dam and through 1400 mm and 700 mm size main pipelines. There is wastage of water due to old motor pumps. Besides, a bypass system will help to increase the capacity of lifting water. The lifting capacity could not be increased by more than 20 MLD as the condition of existing main pipelines is pathetic, said the experts.

Two weeks ago, the AMC administrator for smooth implementation of the water supply scheme had appointed independent officers. However, the lack of coordination amongst them is affecting the water distribution system in the city. Hence the AMC administrator assured of looking into the matter on priority.
