AMC initiates to construct second administrative building in Padampura
Aurangabad, Nov 20:
The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is initiating to construct a new administrative building on five acres of land, situated at Padampura. Absence of adequate space in the existing headquarter building, at Town Hall, is the reason for the development. The administrator Astik Kumar Pandey initiated the new building.
The status of municipal council was elevated to AMC in 1982. The civic body reserved five acres of land for construction of the administrative building at Padampura. The location is exactly opposite to the PWD Compound. The civic body had also deposited Rs 50 lakh in the court for the acquisition of land bearing survey number CTS No. 20155. Due to shortage of funds, the civic body could not kickstart the work.
In the old days, there were less municipal councillors; therefore, the meetings used to be held in the heritage building of Town Hall. In the 1980s, the AMC constructed its first new building, and then the extension of office was made in the second and third phase. All the technical offices are operated from the third phase building, while the two buildings are used for administrative purposes. Many times, the discussion on the construction of the administrative building was held, but could not proceed further. The AMC requires at least Rs 100 crore for the new building, and it is quite a challenge over how to raise the fund.
According to administrative sources, " Under the chairmanship of A K Pandey, a meeting was held on Thursday evening to check feasibility whether the AMC''s dream could come true through the diversion of funds from the Smart City project. Few private experts were also invited to the meeting. The primary discussion was held on how the administrative building, said the sources.
Presently, the city is visited by many representatives from various local self-governments in Maharashtra visit the city on a study tour to see development projects launched by the AMC. The civic body deprives the state of the art hall to conduct meetings with them. Space is indeed falling short to officers and personnel in nearly all the sections of the AMC.
