AMC to grant permission for 15-storey buildings in city

Aurangabad, Nov 6:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration has constituted a committee comprising expert engineers and planners to check feasibility and grant permission to the construction of the 15-storey building (of height 50 metres). Hence, the historic city will now witness momentum in the development on the lines of Mumbai, Pune and Nashik cities.

The AMC held a meeting to discuss the city''s development today. The civic administrator Astik Kumar Pandey chaired the meeting which was attended by the office-bearers of CREDAI and Architect Association. The builders and architects informed the administrator that there is a need for granting permission to the construction of high rise buildings in the city. Presently, the AMC''s town planning section permits to construct buildings up to a height of 36 metres (or 11 storeys). They also mentioned that the state government had granted relaxation to construct buildings up to a height of 50 metres (or 15-storeys) in the city. The city is expanding rapidly from all four directions, they stressed.

Considering the demand, the civic administration formed a committee which will go through the proposals coming before it and grant permission for the construction immediately.

It is learnt that the state government will be implementing new Development Control Rules (DCR) after the Diwali festival. The latest development rules will have a provision of allowing construction of the building of a height of 70 metres (or 22storeys) in Aurangabad.

" The cost of land has gone beyond the reach of people. As a result, the citizens had to construct their dream houses on the outskirts of the city. The limit of horizontal expansion of the city has been sealed. Now there is only scope to the vertical expansion in the construction of the apartments (high rise) buildings and to occupy dream houses in the city and at affordable prices is the only solution," stressed the office-bearers of both the organisations.

The committee will be headed by the municipal commissioner, while the assistant director (town planning), executive engineer (public works department), head of soil testing department at Government Engineering College (GCE), head of the structural department at GEC, head of fire brigade section, deputy engineer (town planning) and deputy engineer (who will be working on the project) will be the members of the committee.
