Aurangabad, March 13:

The city is witnessing a rise in the number of Covid-19 patients for the past few weeks. The sudden rush could lead to a shortage of bed facility in the existing Covid Care Centres (CCC). Hence, as a precautionary measure, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration has decided to restart three CCCs at CIPET, Deogiri College and PES College, in the second phase, from Monday. The capacity at these centres is 650 beds.

Six months ago, the AMC had stopped the functioning and operations of CCCs in the city, while only two CCCs at Padampura and Meltron continued to function for the past one year. Observing the increase of Covid-19 patients, the AMC restarted the CCCs at MGM Sports Complex, Kile Ark, MIT College and Government Engineering College (GEC) Hostel in the first phase. The total capacity of beds in all these six CCCs is 1,493, and there were 1,398 patients admitted till Friday. Around 100 beds were lying vacant.

It is learnt that the health officials would acquire the CIPET building and arrange 300 beds. The officials discussed with the management to start CCC at Deogiri College Hostel. The officials will also take possession of the GEC Hostel soon. The capacity in both the CCCs is 350 beds.
