Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
BJP corporator Anil Shrikishan Makariye today ascended the position of standing committee chairman by securing 10 votes. His rival and AIMIM candidate Khan Abdul Mateen polled four votes only. Meanwhile, one member each of Uddhav Sena and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi preferred remaining neutral by not casting a vote to any candidate.
The district collector Deelip Swami was the presiding officer. The municipal commissioner G Sreekanth and the municipal secretary Nandkishore Bhombe were also present. The election process began at 11 am. The presiding officer spared 15 minutes time for withdrawal of nomination. During the election, eight members of BJP and two members of Shinde Sena voted for Makariye, while four AIMIM members voted for Khan. After completing the process, the presiding officer announced Makariye as the new chairman of the standing committee.
BJP-Shinde Sena corporators shouted slogans. The OBC Welfare minister Atul Save, despite ongoing Cabinet proceedings in Mumbai, took out time to visit civic headquarters and attend the election of his friend Makariye. Both of them are childhood friends and share cordial family relations. The minister, in a lighter vein, shared a few childhood memories of playing marbles, flying kites and spinning tops on the occasion.
