Aurangabad, July 9:

The cyber fraudsters duped the son of an assistant police inspector (API) of Rs 1,59,997, luring him to provide online work and earn lucrative profits. Notably, the boy deposited the amount in the fraudsters bank accounts directly from the bank account of his father. A case has been registered at the Cyber police station.

API Prashant Bondekar (N-8, Cidco) works in the city police force. His son Vedant, studying in class tenth, saw an advertisement about work from home on social media. He contacted the advertisers and was told that he would get lucrative income for working from home. But he will have to pay Rs 999 to join the work. Later, he received the information on WhatsApp that he has to deposit Rs 4999 as a security deposit. Again, he was asked to pay Rs 25,000 to generate the work link and Rs 40,000 for the refund card. Vedant deposited the money through an online system in various bank accounts on 19, June. However, he did not receive any link for the work from home, and hence he called the company again. He was told that there was a delay in the process and therefore he will have to complete the process again, for which, he will have to pay additional Rs 80,000.

The fraudsters took a total of Rs 1,59,997 from Vedant but did not give him any work. They did not return his money either. When realized he was cheated, he told his parents about it.
