Bumper Diwali for traders in the city
Aurangabad, Nov 19: The market was in turmoil for more than six months due to Covid-19. However, since Dussehra, the market has taken a big leap. Diwali remained a bumper for the market. People who were confined to their houses came out in large numbers for shopping this Diwali. This has resulted in a turnover of Rs 1,000-1,200 crore in the district.
Automobile, construction sector, electronics, electricals, gold-silver market, textile and furniture market saw a massive turnover this festive season. Companies had announced huge discounts for consumers. There was no place to set foot in Nirala Bazar, Paithan Gate, Shahgunj, City Chowk, Osmanpura, Gulmandi, Kumbharwada and Connaught area, said Laxminarayan Rathi, secretary of the Zilah Vyapari Mahasangh.
Turnover of more than Rs 300 crore
Purchasing home is considered auspicious on the occasion of Dussehra and Diwali. According to CREDAI members, around a hundred homes were sold on Dussehra and two hundred on Diwali. In addition, more than 300 new homes have been booked during the festive season. Out of this, Dussehra and Diwali together generated a turnover of Rs 300-400 crore in the construction sector, CREDAI said.
Textile market received a huge boost
From Dussehra to Diwali, new clothes were bought in large numbers. The clothing stores saw unprecedented crowds. Readymade clothes had the highest turnover. The textile market in the district also saw a turnover of crores of rupees. The turnover on Dussehra was Rs 2 to 3 crore and on Diwali it was Rs 30 crore, said trader Ajay Shah.
Sales cross expectations in automobile market
Rahul Pagaria, president of the Automobile Federation said, "Five hundred four-wheelers were sold on Dussehra and eight hundred four-wheelers for Lakshmi Puja and Diwali Padva. More than five thousand two-wheelers were sold on Dussehra and Diwali together. The automobile sector saw a turnover of around Rs 200 crore to Rs 250 crore. This year''s Diwali remained a bumper for the vehicle market. The four-wheeler bookings are still going on and will continue till next few weeks, he said.
Bullion market rejuvenated
Gold prices fluctuated up to Rs 52,000 per 10 grams on Dussehra. After Dussehra, gold and silver prices fell on Diwali. This led to an increase in the purchase of gold jewellery. According to the bullion traders, the turnover was around Rs 100 crore on both Dussehra, Diwali and Padwa.
Huge turnover in the electronics market
Various offers for electronics devices were announced this Diwali by traders. Consumers took advantage and made large purchases. AC, LED TV, refrigerators, flour mills and mobiles were in demand. There was a big crowd on Dussehra-Diwali to buy household appliances including washing machines, microwaves and dishwashers. Electronics retailers said the market had a turnover of over Rs 100 crore. In addition, the turnover for furniture and other home appliances was Rs 50 to 100 crores.
