Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme being implemented as per the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the work of voter mapping in the district has gathered pace. District Collector Vinay Gowda G.C. has directed that the mapping work across the district be completed by May 10.
Till May 6, mapping of 24.15 lakh voters out of a total of 32.44 lakh in the district has been completed, achieving 74.44 per cent progress, said the deputy district election officer Savita Chaudhar.
Reviewing the progress, the district collector instructed all electoral registration officers, assembly EROs, booth level officers (BLOs), and supervisors to complete the task within the stipulated timeframe.
During the mapping process, it has been observed that some voters are not found at their registered addresses, while some have been reported deceased. In such cases, as per ECI guidelines, these voters will be categorised as ‘shifted voters’ or ‘deceased voters’, and the process of removing their names from the electoral roll will be undertaken.
Voter mapping under the SIR is a crucial exercise that helps make the electoral roll more accurate, updated, and transparent. It prevents duplication and ensures proper records of migrated, deceased, or unavailable voters, thereby making the election process more reliable and fair.
The administration has appealed to citizens to cooperate with this process. Residents are requested to provide necessary information when BLOs visit their homes and to update their details by contacting officials using the BLO information available on the district administration’s website, thereby helping complete the mapping process.
