Corporator Meraj Khan gets interim anticipatory bail in assault case
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
The Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court, presided over by Justice Mehroze Pathan, has granted interim anticipatory bail to AIMIM corporator Meraj Khan, accepting the argument that he was not present at the scene during the alleged attack on former corporator’s brother Rafat Yar Khan.
Meraj Khan had been absent from two consecutive general body (GB) meetings and standing committee (SC) meetings. Had he remained absent from a third meeting, his membership could have been cancelled. With the interim anticipatory bail granted, he will now be able to attend municipal corporation meetings, thereby safeguarding his membership.
In connection with the case of assault on Rafat Yar Khan, an FIR has been registered at the City Chowk police station against corporator Meraj Khan, his sons, nephews, and others. After the sessions court rejected his bail plea, an anticipatory bail application was filed in the High Court bench through Adv Abhay Singh Bhosale. It was also argued that the incident stemmed from political rivalry and that Meraj Khan was not present at the time of the alleged incident.
The bench has directed him to remain present at the City Chowk police station every Monday. Adv Bhosale was assisted by Adv Yash Pawar.
