Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A total of 1,831 contractual employees of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) have been transferred to four different agencies. From February 21, these agencies have taken all employees on to their attendance rolls. For the next three months, the four agencies will have to pay the employees’ salaries from their own funds. It is therefore expected that contractual employees will receive their wages on time.

Six months ago, the civic administration had floated a tender to appoint agencies to supply contractual manpower. Four agencies qualified through the process. Each agency had been instructed to provide 500 employees, and work orders were subsequently issued. However, when the agencies actually commenced operations, the administration allocated a varying number of employees to each—some more, some fewer.

The agencies are required to pay employees the full salary currently being disbursed by the municipal corporation. In addition, they will receive a separate service charge of 3 per cent. Over the past few months, employees have reportedly been receiving nearly double the salary compared to earlier, and many have expressed satisfaction. Municipal Commissioner G Sreekanth has been felicitated twice by employees.
