Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Local ministers and leaders had strongly urged the government not to transfer the municipal commissioner, stressing the need to ensure progress in the city’s new water supply project. However, despite their efforts, the transfer was carried out to Mumbai. Subsequently, after political intervention, the officer was reassigned as divisional commissioner within two weeks. Following his transfer on April 16, G Sreekanth chaired his first meeting on Thursday, focusing on the water supply scheme.

The trial run to supply water from Jayakwadi to the Nakshatrawadi water treatment plant, under the new water supply project aimed at ensuring drinking water supply to the city by May 2026, has been successfully completed. The divisional commissioner directed that the remaining works be completed in a proper and quality manner. He also instructed officials to identify the causes of leakages detected during the pipeline testing and to take necessary preventive measures to ensure that such issues do not recur.

A review meeting on the city’s water supply scheme was held under his chairmanship in the divisional commissioner’s office conference hall. The meeting was attended by municipal commissioner Amol Yedge, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) chief engineer Manisha Palande, executive engineer Dipendra Korate, municipal corporation officials, private contractors, and other departmental representatives.

Positive approach to road repairs

The discussion also covered the status of work related to jackwells, pumping systems, water purification processes, and ongoing infrastructure development. It was noted that while pipeline laying work is currently underway in the city, causing damage to roads in some areas, the municipal administration is likely to take a positive decision on road restoration once the work is completed. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with the ongoing works.
