Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
With temperatures rising sharply and fears of drinking water scarcity looming, hundreds of farmers and residents from Paithan tehsil, along with MLA Vilas Bhumare, met officials of the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation on Monday, demanding the release of water into the Godavari river basin.
The delegation met executive director Jayant Gawali at the Sinchan Bhavan and discussed the growing water crisis affecting both residents and livestock due to the intense summer heat. Bhumare also demanded that pending works under the Brahmagavhan Lift Irrigation Scheme be completed immediately.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the status of the irrigation project, including survey work related to the reserved 13 MCM water allocation. Gawali directed concerned officials to expedite the survey process and submit a report to the government for including the remaining villages under the scheme.
Complaints regarding land acquisition and compensation issues under the Brahmagavhan project were also resolved during the meeting.
A review was also conducted on the lining work of the Paithan Left Canal. Considering the summer situation, a demand was raised to release water into the Apegaon and Hiradpuri barrages for cattle. Bhumare instructed officials to immediately begin and complete pre-monsoon works on priority.
