Unidentified thieves broke into four houses in Golatgaon (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) late Thursday night, stealing cash and gold-silver ornaments worth lakhs. The incident came to light on Saturday morning, triggering panic among residents.
Baban Shinde and Suresh Shinde had locked their rear rooms and were sleeping in the front portion with their families when the thieves broke locks and a door to access cupboards. Baban Shinde reported theft of Rs 2 lakh saved for his daughter’s house construction, Rs 50,000 withdrawn from the bank on Friday, around 5–5.5 tolas of gold ornaments belonging to family members, and silver jewellery, including ornaments kept for his daughter. From Suresh Shinde’s house, Rs 14,000 and gold-silver ornaments were stolen. Krishna Shinde lost Rs 30,000 and a gold pendant, while Prabhakar Shinde reported theft of Rs 10,000 and a gold ornament. Villagers said thefts have increased over the past month, terming this the biggest burglary so far. Karmad police visited the spot, registered a case, and called forensic and dog squads for investigation.
