FRS to train experts from nine states to enhance productivity of Kesar Mangoes
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
A three-day national training programme on ‘Cultivation Practices in Mango’ is being organised by the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Kesar Mango at the Fruit Research Station (FRS) from May 12 to 14.
Selected horticulturists, district horticulture officers, tehsil horticulture officers and subject matter specialists from nine states — Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana and Karnataka — are participating in the training programme, said the CoE’s project officer Dr. Sanjay Patil.
During the programme, participants are being introduced to the best cultivation practices adopted by the CoE to enhance crop productivity and improve fruit quality. The training also focuses on scientific measures to protect mango plants from withering, right from the sapling stage to fruit-bearing trees. In addition, the guidance and extension support provided to mango growers in the Marathwada region through field surveys and inspections to boost productivity are also being shared with the participants.
Notably, the FRS has developed nearly one lakh Kesar Mango saplings, which will soon be made available to farmers based on demand.
