Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Divisional commissioner Jitendra Papalkar on Friday directed gas distribution companies to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for cooking at school mid-day meal kitchens, tribal development department hostels, social justice department hostels, Ashram schools and hospitals in the district.
The directive came after rumours of a gas shortage led to people queuing up outside gas agencies. To monitor the situation, 11 inspection teams were deployed across the district to check godowns, distribution records, irregularities between booking and cylinder delivery, and to prevent hoarding.
District collector Deelip Swami said that adequate domestic LPG stock is available in the district.
25 cylinders needed daily for 3,522 students
The district has 10 Ashram schools under the tribal development department, where 25 cylinders are required daily to prepare meals for 3,522 students. LPG supply will also continue for preparing mid-day meals in 3,166 schools and centralised kitchens.
If colleges or schools arrange temporary kitchens to avoid inconvenience to students, cylinders will be provided. Gas will also be supplied to hospitals for cooking and medical needs, and to science students for chemistry practical examinations, Papalkar said.
