Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

For the first time in 70 years, India will host the Global Buddhist Dhamma conference, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar chosen as the venue. The five-day conference will be held from February 26 to 28 and March 1 and 2, with participation from bhikkhunis, bhikkhus and Upasak from 30 countries.

Chief organiser prof. Bhikkhuni Dhammadarshana Mahatheri said, “Arahant Buddhist monks will be present. The event will take place at Vishwashanti Buddh Vihar, Bhimtekdi. Registration for Vinay Pitaka chanting will begin on Sunday”.

Referring to the 6th Dhamma Sangiti in Rangoon attended by B. R. Ambedkar, she recalled his historic conversion to Buddhism in Nagpur on October 14, 1956, when lakhs embraced the Dhamma. The conference is being organised in remembrance of that era in the city once known as Aurangabad.

Guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat and leaders from various parties will attend. Organisers have appealed for large participation to strengthen the Buddhist movement for the next 200 years.
