GMCH contractual employees initiate chain hunger strike
Aurangabad, Nov 12:
The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) employees began a chain hunger strike from Thursday to press the demands of paying pending salaries, bonuses, including in rugular services and others.
The contractual workers at GMCH have not received the salaries for January and February. Hence, the AITUC affiliated Maharashtra Kamgar Karmachari Sanghatana initiated a chain hunger strike to press various demands. union leaders Adv Abhay Taksal, Abhijeet Bansode, Amit Bhalerao, Ajay Bansode, Arunabai Wahul, Nandabai Hiwarale, Yogesh Gangawane, and others were present. A memorandum of demands was presented to the dean Dr Kanan Yelikar. Adv Taksal said that every day two employees would continue the hunger strike so that the medical services should not hamper, he said.
Meanwhile, the contractual workers also initiated a half-day strike at Government Cancer Hospital to press the demand to give salaries according to the minimum wages Act. Chief Executive Officer Dr Arvind Gaikwad discussed the issue with the employees and assured them to resolve the demands. Later, the workers withdrew the strike and continue the work.
