The Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court comprising Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice B U Debadwar have ordered the Government Medical College (Aurangabad) not to cancel the first-year medical admission of petitioner till November 27.
The petitioner is an orphan, as a result, the High Court also directed the Department of Women and Child Development to complete the due procedure and take the decision on issuing ''orphan'' certificate to the petitioner by November 26.
The petitioner Divya Ashok Sangle lost her parents when she was four years old. A Parbhani-based social organisation took her care. Divya completed her education till 12th standard. She then cleared NEET examination. There is one per cent reservation for orphan students. Hence the petitioner got admission to the first year in Aurangabad''s Government Medical College in the reservation quota. Accordingly, the candidate was called for completing the admission procedure in the college on November 20. She did not have a certificate to prove that she is an orphan. Moreover, it was the last date of admission. Hence, she faced a problem to get admission.
Adv Siddheshwar Thombre filed the petition in the High Court and brought into the notice of technicalities and requested the court to direct the administration concerned to issue ''orphan'' certificate to the petitioner. Hence the bench gave the above order on Friday.
Government pleader Kiran Jadhawvar represented on behalf of the government, while Adv Mrugesh Narwadkar pleaded on behalf of the CET Cell.
