HC rejects pleas challenging teachers eligibility test

Aurangabad, June 16:

Aurangabad division bench of Bombay High Court comprising justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice Shrikant Kulkarni recently rejected 89 petitions challenging the teacher eligibility test (TET) and demanding extension to it. After this decision, the primary school teachers not qualifying TET will be held ineligible.

Sagar Bahire and others had submitted 89 writ petitions in the Aurangabad division bench in this regard. As per the Right To Education (RTE) Act, TET is compulsary for the teachers. The teachers were given time extension to clear the examination on various occasion. The teachers were given extention for TET till March 31, 2019. Still, petitions were submitted for extension and also challenging the TET in the Aurangabad division bench. Similarly, the government of Maharashtra had also given extension for clearing TET and also clarified that no extension will be given after that and an order was also released in this regard. Many teachers challenged it in the division bench while interim stay was given in this matter. The hearing in this matter was completed on April 23, 2021, but the bench withheld the decision and it was announced on June 11. Assistant public prosecutor Atul R Kale appeared for the government.
