Hearing on corporator Matin Patel’s petitions on May 18

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) had demolished the house, office and six shops belonging to AIMIM corporator Matin Majid Shaikh (Patel) on May 13, alleging that the structures were unauthorised. Challenging the municipal corporation notices dated May 9 2026 issued prior to the demolition, Matin has filed two separate petitions before the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court. The petitions are scheduled to be heard on May 18.

Claim that the plot was purchased by his father

According to the petitions, the plot on which Matin’s house stands was purchased in 1992 by his father, Majid Shaikh Akbar Shaikh, from Roopchand Dahihande through a registered sale deed. A house was subsequently constructed on the property. Matin has attached a property tax receipt for the year 2010-11 along with the petition as proof of payment of taxes on the house.

The petition further states that in January 2024, a loan of Rs 20 lakh was obtained from Federal Bank for a tenure of 15 years for the construction and repair of the house. The property is also jointly held in the names of Matin and his brother Mohsin Shaikh.

However, Matin has alleged that the municipal corporation did not serve any notice upon him. He further stated that the office and shops also stand in the name of his father, yet no notice was served upon his father either.
