Journalist Niranjan Takle booked for remarks on PM, CM and Supreme Court

A case has been registered against journalist Niranjan Takle at Begumpura police station for allegedly making objectionable statements about PM Narendra Modi, CM Devendra Fadnavis and the Supreme Court.

The complaint, filed by Appasaheb Pardhe (35) from Vivek Vichar Manch, cites Takle’s remarks as offensive and inciting social discord.

The controversy stems from Takle’s speech at the 19th All India Rebellious Literature Conference, held at Amkhas Maidan in February. On the evening of February 23, during a discussion on "Challenges of Corporate Manusmritis to the Constitution and Democracy," he allegedly referred to Fadnavis in a singular manner. While addressing freedom of expression, he reportedly referenced Modi and the Supreme Court in a manner deemed derogatory. Pardhe, a resident of Nutan Colony, argued that these comments hurt public sentiment and demanded legal action. Acting on his complaint, police registered a case against Takle on Tuesday.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the conference, Pardhe submitted a written complaint, after which he was called for questioning. On Tuesday, he recorded his statement at Begumpura police station, leading to the formal registration of the case. Police inspector Mangesh Jagtap confirmed that authorities will obtain and examine the video recording of Takle’s speech as part of the investigation. The incident has sparked discussions on the boundaries of free speech and the legal consequences of political commentary. As the investigation unfolds, further developments are awaited.
