Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The Islam Party (Indian Secular Largest Assembly of Maharashtra), formed in Malgaon 1.5 years ago, won 35 seats in the 2026 municipal elections, securing power in Malgaon Municipal Council.

After Ramadan, the party plans to expand into Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, following invitations from former local councilors to party chief former MLA Shaikh Asif. The AIMIM party second-largest in the council with 33 seats remains in opposition, while some strategists view the Islam Party as an alternative. On February 15, over 150 vehicles demonstrated support in Malgaon, felicitating newly elected leaders and Sheikh Asif. A delegation of Ulema Board and Mutawalli officials also requested the party’s presence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Observers will conduct surveys post-Ramadan before final decisions.
