Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme being implemented as per the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), voter mapping work is underway in the district.

By May 10, mapping of 24.15 lakh voters out of a total 32.44 lakh voters in the district had been completed, which accounts for 74.98 per cent. Around eight lakh voters are yet to be mapped.

Meanwhile, District Collector Vinay Gowda G.C. has appealed that recognised political parties should appoint their polling booth-level agents (BLAs) for the SIR of electoral rolls and submit their details to the Electoral Registration Officers. He was speaking at a meeting held on Wednesday with political parties regarding the voter list revision programme. Deputy district election officer Savita Chaudhar and representatives of political parties were present.

Complaints of lack of response from BLOs !

Mapping percentages are comparatively lower in urban constituencies, currently ranging between 50 pc and 60 pc. Complaints have been increasing that booth level officers (BLOs) are not responding even after being contacted. As a result, mapping in urban areas remains lower than in rural constituencies, it is learnt.

Around 1 lakh voters with discrepancies in records

It has also been observed that some voters have identical as well as different photographs in the electoral rolls. Preliminary information suggests that around 1.05 lakh voters have discrepancies in names and photographs. This will be verified through BLOs, and action will be taken as per rules in cases of duplicate entries.
