The city and surrounding areas recorded the highest temperature of April on Sunday. After touching a three-year high record of 43.4°C on April 26, the temperature dipped slightly by 0.4 degrees on Monday, settling at 43°C. The minimum temperature rose to 28.7°C. Intense heat prevailed from 11 am to 4 pm, with a strong build-up of heat even after 4 pm. The sky turned cloudy towards sunset. Rising minimum temperatures increased humidity, leading to uncomfortable conditions. The impact of an approaching heatwave has begun to be felt. The meteorological department has warned that temperatures will remain high from April 29 to May 12, a trend already evident from recent readings.
Daytime heat pattern
The sun was harsh as early as 8 am, with heat intensifying after 10 am. The period from 11 am to 4 pm was the most severe, with maximum temperatures crossing 42–43°C across the city and nearby areas. Although temperatures gradually declined after 4 pm, the heat persisted into the evening.
Health department asked to stay prepared
Authorities have been directed to spread awareness on coping with the upcoming heatwave. The health department has been instructed to set up cooling wards at all healthcare facilities and remain prepared. Preparations are being reviewed by both the health and disaster management departments in view of the heatwave.
