Aurangabad, May 12:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has awarded the responsibility of conducting a 'water audit' to the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP). Accordingly, the MJP team has started surveying various parts of the city, treatment plants, pump houses, etc. They are closely observing the cross-connections, leakages in the pipelines, etc to improve the water distribution system to reduce the wastage or loss of water in the city.

One week ago, the AMC administrator A K Pandey had a joint meeting with MJP officials and gave the responsibility of audit. He apprised them about the demand and supply of water by AMC during the summer season. The aim of the audit is to actually jot down the real quantity of water lifted from the source and the actual quantity of water that reached the city after-treatment process. He had also informed them to identify areas receiving less water, its reasons, leakages in the pipelines and give their valuable suggestions to improve the water distribution system effectively.

Accordingly, the MJP team, during the last one week, surveyed the two pump houses of 100 MLD and 56 MLD capacity each, sump at Bidkin, water treatment plant at Pharola, and Master Balancing Reservoir at Nakshatrawadi. The team also surveyed the Express Pipeline supplying water dedicatedly to Cidco-Hudco sectors. The MJP officials also inspected the cross-connections in the water supply at Garkheda, Sutgirni, and Pundaliknagar. They also visited some important areas of the city.

The MJP will soon be submitting the inspection report to AMC and will recommend measures needed to improve the water distribution system. The meeting to review the progress of the survey is likely to be held in a couple of days said the sources.
