The government and administration have suppressed Mother Marathi. We too are responsible for this, as we undervalued our mother tongue. However, all Indian faiths allow for atonement. By admitting our children to English-medium schools, we committed a wrong step; at the very least, we should enrol our grandchildren in Marathi-medium schools to make amends. We must consciously contribute to the growth of the language of Dnyanoba and Tukoba. We must take a deliberate pledge to uphold Mother Marathi, said novelist Vishwas Patil.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the first all India medical literature culture conference organised by the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar branch of Indian Medical Association at MIT Engineering College on Sunday. The programme was chaired by director, writer, and paediatrician Padma Shri Jabbar Patel.
MP Bhagwat Karad, prof Kautikrao Thale Patil, MIT director general Munish Sharma, dean of GMCH Dr Shivaji Sukre, former dean Dr Kanan Yelikar, IMA president and conference welcome president Dr Anupam Takalkar, secretary Dr Yogesh Lakkas, conference executive chairman Dr Shahaji Taur, Dr Yashwant Gade, and Dr Santosh Ranjalkar were present on the dais.
Vishwas Patil stated that over the past 50 years, 98 per cent of internationally renowned researchers and scientists have studied in Marathi-medium schools. Dr Karad said that while treating patients, doctors also capture the movements of the human mind through literature.
The programme was compered by Dr Anant Kadethankar and Dr Asavari Takalkar.
Honoured as ‘IMA Navratna’
For their contributions in the medical and other fields, MP Dr Bhagwat Karad, Padma Bhushan Dr Ashok Kukde, Padma Shri Dr Himmatrao Bawaskar, Padma Shri Dr Vikas Mahatme, Dr Ashok Belkhode, Dr Dilip Punde, Dr Rajendra Malose, Dr Ashwinikumar Tupkari, and Dr Balaji Galdhar were honoured as ‘IMA Navratna’.
