MSEDCL urges ZP for recovery of Rs 254 crore bill for street lights

Aurangabad, Dec 14:

In all, 2,292 electricity meters have been installed in various villages under 864 gram panchayats to supply electricity to street lights. These meters have arrears of Rs 254 crore till March 31, 2021. MSEDCL officials are urging the Zilla Parishad (ZP) to pay the arrears. Meanwhile, ZP chief executive officer Nilesh Gatne, has instructed the GPs not to install high masts in the villages and to pay the light bills from April 1.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) organised a special drive to recover the electricity bill. Power supply to water supply schemes of several villages in the district was disconnected for recovery of electricity bills. CEO Gatne convened a meeting of MSEDCL officials to resolve the issue. The rural development department was transferring the electricity connection bills of street lights and public water supply schemes to MSEDCL from the funds received under the 14th finance commission. In the meeting held on Monday, Gatne ordered the GP should pay the bill from April 1 and the ZP will demand funds from the government to pay the previous bill of Rs 254 crore.
