Aurangabad, July 5:

“The importance of news channels in India in the seventies is not the same now. Newspapers readership is also said to be declining. But, that doesn’t mean journalism or newspapers will die. Newspapers with quality content will certainly survive. It will not become more profound or sustainable unless the new generation enters journalism,” said senior journalist and producer Dr Sameeran Walvekar.

He was speaking on Monday at the inaugural lecture of the 11-day lecture series being conducted by MGM University's College of Mass Communication and Journalism.

Field experts will guide the participants on different subjects.

Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities of MGM University Dr Rekha Shelke, Senior Editor Praveen Bardapurkar and others were also present.

Dr Walvekar further said that if the new generation comes to this field with a thorough education in journalism, the field will become more profound. Vivek Rathod conducted the proceedings of the programme.
