Aurangabad, June 13:
Noted photographer and former head of Photography Department of Government College of Art and Design Avinash Parmar passed away on June 13.
He was 77 and leaves behind wife, three daughters, sons-in-law and two brothers. Parmar was a resident of N-8. Last rites were performed at N-11 Smashanbhumi of Cidco N-11 today.
He was the elder brother of Prof B K Parmar. Parmars came to Maharashtra from Kutuch district. He completed his primary education at Igatpur in Nashik and obtained a degree from J J School of Art of Mumbai.
Avinash joined Government Art and Design College as teaching faculty in 1971 and later, Government College of Art and Design in Aurangabad in 1976.
He retired as photography department head in 2001. He played an important role in establishing the ‘Photography Club’. He implemented new initiatives and conducted many photography contests.
He had the lion’s share in shaping many youths as a photographer. Teaching and non-teaching staff members and students paid rich tributes to him.
Prof Shashikant Pendse, one of his colleagues, said that they were both classmates and loved photography.
“We both were teaching in Government College of Art and Design. I have lost a colleague and friend in his death,” he said.
Kishor Nikam, one of his students, said that Parmar has the lion’s share in shaping him as a photographer. “He played an important role in establishing Aurangabad Photography Club. He did different experiments in photography and shaped the career of students like me,” he added.
