Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A large number of open and unsecured wells in the city and surrounding areas are posing a serious threat to stray animals and even children. In search of water and food, many animals fall into these wells, often leading to injuries or death. Cows, stray dogs and even wild animals have been frequent victims of such incidents.

Rescue teams, equipped with modern tools and trained personnel, descend into deep wells to safely retrieve trapped animals. Injured animals are treated and later released back into their natural habitat. “In just one week, we rescued animals from five different wells,” said wildlife rescue team head Ashish Joshi.

With rising temperatures and increasing water scarcity, such incidents are on the rise. NGOs like Man with Indies Foundation and the fire brigade are actively involved in rescue operations. Experts warn that wild animals are increasingly moving towards urban areas, increasing the risk.

Authorities have been urged to cover open wells with protective grills or fencing and ensure proper waste management to prevent such incidents.
