Opposition to new property tax assessment
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) will begin levying increased taxes on old properties using the new ready reckoner method starting from April 1. The Zilla Vyapari Mahasangh has opposed this move. They have also issued a warning that if this is implemented, it will be met with protests.
According press release regarding this matter states that the decision of the municipal corporation to impose an increased property tax from April 1 by changing the previous method of property tax assessment aimed at increasing revenue.
However, it is expected that any increase in property tax should be decided after taking the citizens and the association into confidence. It is not appropriate to burden the citizens by increasing property taxes to boost municipal revenue.
The association has warned that if property taxes are levied using the new method, it will launch a public movement, stated the release.
