Order restricting promotion to backward class employees cancelled
Aurangabad, Dec 17:
Sanjay Ghodke, central president of the Swatantra Majdoor union and the Backward Classes Electrical Employees union said that the letter dated December 29, 2017, of the general administration department of the state government rejecting the promotion of backward class officers and employees even from the open category has been cancelled.
In a meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on Wednesday, energy minister Dr Nitin Raut demanded cancellation of the letter. It was approved by the sub-committee. Following the decision of the Mumbai High Court dated August 4, 2017, the general administrative department had issued an illegal letter on December 29, 2017, banning the promotion of backward class employees and officers from the open category as well as according to seniority. The union drew the attention of the government on 26 February 2018 by holding a massive agitation at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Later, on 18 December 2019, a big march was taken during the Nagpur winter session of the legislative assembly. As a result, the issue was raised in the cabinet meeting on January 21, 2020 on the initiative of Dr Raut. Earlier, a high-level meeting of the majdoor union was held with the minister on January 17, 2020. union president S Patil presented all the necessary documents along with the copy of the decisions of the Supreme Court.
